The Town Clerk’s Office is a great place to start if you have any questions about any aspect of Town Government and services the Town provides.  We encourage you to give us a call and we'll gladly answer your questions or refer you to the appropriate department.  If you would like a copy of the Town Board Meeting Minutes sent directly to you, please feel free to contact the office via email at  It is our pleasure to serve you!  Town Clerk's Hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday until Labor Day.   

The Town Board meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:00 pm.  Please look below at our important links for more information.  You can view the meetings and meeting minutes in the board meetings section.

The Town Clerk is responsible for:

  • Attending all Town Board meetings and preparing official minutes of those meetings
  • Having custody of all Records, Books, and Papers of the Town
  • Filing Local Laws and maintaining Code Books
  • Maintaining an official signboard for posting of legal notices and other documents 
  • Administering Oaths of Office to Officers and Employees, and Justices of the Town, and Fire District Officers of the Town
  • Processing new U. S. Passport Applications
  • Issuing Dog Licenses, Veteran Discount (FAVOR) cards, Hunting Licenses, Federal Duck Stamps, Fishing Licenses, Dog Licenses, Marriage Licenses and certified transcripts, Bingo, Games of Chance, Raffle and Bell Jar Licenses, Handicap Parking Permits, Trash Hauler licenses, Sales of Zoning books and maps, and NYS Thruway E-ZPass permits
  • Advertising of Legal Notices as ordered by the Town Board
  • Providing Notary Services to the public

The Town Clerk is the Records Management Officer for the town. The custody, storage and disposition of all town records are the Town Clerk’s responsibility.  Additionally, the Town Clerk is the Freedom of Information Law Officer, administering the program which ensures access to most town documents.  Some records, such as the Town Board Minutes and the Town Code Book, are readily available for viewing and can be seen during regular business hours.  Other documents need time to locate and review before being released: a written request pursuant to the Freedom of Information Law may be required for them.  All requests to review specific documents should be directed to the Town Clerk’s Office.  

Marriage Licenses: Call for information and appointments. Only certain documents will be accepted by the Town Clerk's Office for Marriage Licenses as follows with no exeptions:


The Town Clerk’s Office is designated to accept passport applications. Specific requirements for individuals who are applying may be found at the website of the Department of State (link below).  

Appointments are required to ensure the presence of a Clerk who is qualified to process the application.

PLEASE NOTE, Passport applications are currently taking 14 to 18 weeks to process.  We DO NOT take pictures.  Pictures can be taken at Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart or Kinney Drugs.

Dog Licenses

The Town Clerk’s office is a local resource for all dog licensing issues. All dogs 4 months or older are required to be licensed. License renewals, license tag replacements and dog redemptions are provided through the Town Clerk’s Office. 

Conservation Licenses

The Town Clerk’s office is a convenient location for NYS fishing, hunting, trapping, bow hunting, muzzle loading, turkey permits, lost licesnses and lifetime sporting licenses.  Licenses are also available for purchase through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at  For more information contact our office at 316.638.0224 or the DEC at 518.402.8843.

Marriage licenses

Marriage licenses and transcripts are available during normal business hours by appointment.  Please call to make an appointment and information. 

The fee for a marriage license is $40 and anyone previously married MUST FURNISH A COPY OF THE DIVORCE DECREE or a death certificate. Please bring a current form of identification from the following list below:

  • Driver’s license
  • Non-driver’s license with picture
  • Passport (valid) for identiy purpose only
  • Naturalization papers, only original papers are acceptable
  • Military I.D.
  • Employer’s photo I.D.

AND a Birth Certificate with a raised seal or a Baptismal Record

Handicap Parking Permits

As a precaution to residents, please be advised that while driving, parking permits should not be displayed from your rear view mirror as you may be ticketed for “obstruction of view”.

Town Records

Anyone wishing to see or get copies of any Town of Lysander documents must utilize a FOIL Request form (Freedom of Information). Voting/Election Information

The Onondaga County Board of Elections has now taken over the election process.  If you would like information regarding your voting district, you may call the Onondaga County Board of Elections: 315-435-3312, or visit their website:  For your convenience, voter registration forms are available at the Town Clerk’s office.


The Lysander Town Clerk's Office processes passport applications and has the capability of taking passport photos.  The cost of each photo is $10. Please call 315-638-0224 to schedule an appointment for new passports and/or pictures.  Passport hours are 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Recycling “Blue” Bins are provided to Lysander residents by Onondaga County for collecting your recyclable materials. Blue bins are available at the Highway Department. Each household is asked to take no more than two blue bins.  You may call to confirm bin availability 315-635-5551.  For more information on recycling, contact the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency.

Brush and Yard Waste - The Town does not pick up brush and yard waste. Disposal of this material can be taken to the closest OCRRA site at 6296 Airport Road, Camillus, NY 13209. For hours and fees please contact OCRRA at 315-453-2866 or visit their web-site at

Electronic Recycling - The Town of Lysander offers FREE drop off of the following electronic equipment, Monday thru Friday, during regular business hours at the Town of Lysander Highway Department Office located at 2730 West Entry Road:

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED: Air Conditioners, Dehumidifiers, liquids & powders, CFL's and other light bulbs.  PLEASE CALL THE HW DEPARTMENT BEFORE DROPPING OFF ANY ITEMS: 315-635-5551.  The Highway Department's hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
